FAB WOMAN: Deepika Mehta
Master trainer of the reality TV show “The Biggest Loser” as well as owner of a Yoga show on NDTV good times called “Yoga City”, meet Deepika who overcame a near death accident and stands tall today as a key motivator to the lives of many. Known as the New age “Yogini”, a Celebrity Fitness Expert and a motivational speaker, Deepika is a powerhouse of positivity and talent.
In 2001, while rock climbing, Deepika had a tragic accident. She fell from a height of 40 feet and was told by doctors that she would never be able to use her legs or walk again. In a battle where victory was hard-fought and well-deserved, Deepika decided not to give up and recovered after profound healing and the transformative power of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. This ancient practice combines a series of postures, breathing techniques and physical and spiritual strength to open up the core of body and mind. With a daily disciplinary routine and practice, she resumed walking and even ran a half marathon. Today, with the ordeal behind her, she is the youngest teacher to teach at the International Yoga Festival in Rishikesh. When she’s not practicing Yoga, Deepika enjoys her organic salads and dancing to her favorite music like every girl next door. Deepika believes ‘Essence of Yoga lies in sincerity not commercialization’. Having trained celebrities like Aishwarya Rai, Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Yash and Avanti Birla, Deepika is now on a journey to clear all the common myths about Yoga.
A certified professional from American Council on Exercise(ACE), the Reebok University in Group and Personal Training and the Institute of Pilates, Stott in Canada, the multi talented Deepika has racked up 10 years of Experience in Yoga and modern physical fitness techniques. She trained under renowned power yoga guru Shri K PattabhiJois, guru of various other stars like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow. Deepika’s clients come from all over the world and she helps them with various forms of Yoga which includes both mind and body experiences.With a keen aptitude in adopting new techniques and standards, Deepika keeps updating her fitness diet plans, martial art routines, dance forms and western workouts so that she make exciting changes in her daily routine and implement something new every day. Commenting on Hatha Yoga, Deepika said “In using the body to transform the mind, the body is also transformed. It is recaliberated, harmonized, revitalized and brought to its functional peak, unreachable by any amount of cross training”.

FAB BAG: What motivates you?
Deepika – I look for inspiration and motivation everywhere, that’s what keeps me happy, whether its watching amazing Yoga Videos, Dancers, artists, amazing creativity, Performances etc
FAB BAG: If you had to start up something new, what would that be?
Deepika: If I had to start up something new it would be my own clothing line of chic Bohemian Gypsy clothing, with influences from all over the world.
FAB BAG: Your idea of a perfect getaway?
Deepika: My idea of a perfect getaway is to be close to nature so either the beach with tons of Yoga or the mountains with Yoga, add Chai and Hiking in the woods to that:)
FAB BAG: What’s the one message that you’d like to give to our members
Deepika: Keep looking for who you truly are and expressing that (not a fake version of yourself for Facebook)
