WEATHER WISE: Free from oil!
Rains equal humidity equals that lovely matte complexion gone to oily purgatory. Here’s some help!
Rains bring out the romantic in me. I fantasize about that perfect kiss in the rain like the one between the stunning Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Problem is, I’m no Audrey Hepburn when it pours. On the contrary, during monsoon my face shines like a newly greased baking pan. I’m pretty sure I am not the only one with this problem. Incoming rains means high humidity levels in the air. While we sweat, our sebaceous glands go into overdrive resulting in super oily skin. But curse not the rain gods’ dear damsels, for there is plenty we can do to fight this nuisance. A little bit of discipline in your skin care routine will keep you red-carpet beautiful every time you step out with those colorful umbrellas. Include these tips in your beauty regime while it pours outside your window panes and see the magic.
Clean the Slick
When it rains, half the city’s grime will make itself at home on your face, and it needs to come off. Keeping your face clean at all times is essential, so a mild cleanser is suggested.
Exfoliation removes the dead skin from your face and increases circulation, so scrub your face at least once a week. Papaya and apricot extracts for scrubs are very helpful.
Tone that face
Ideally try and use a toner with glycolic acid to further remove the extra toxins and pollutants from your skin. A toner is a must to reduce the excessive oil and shrink those pores.
Seal your skin’s supple moisture
Yes, you need to moisture your face even in the rains. The key here is to use a light-weight moisturiser to seal the suppleness. You should go a step further to protect your skin using moisturisers with SPF protection. Such products are easily absorbed and will leave the skin matte and well toned.
If you are an organic gal, you can replicate your entire monsoon beauty regime using some yummy ingredients from your very own kitchen cabinets.
- Make a good facial cleanser mixing a teaspoon of fresh honey and whole milk. Prepare it fresh every time you need to wash.
- To scrub, put together oatmeal from your breakfast table with lemon juice.
- An amazingly refreshing toner is fresh cucumber juice.
- Finally, to make a home-made moisturiser, just mix some rose water with aloe vera. Easy as pie…
One more thing, make-up during monsoons is a tricky art. If you don’t keep it minimal, you will look like a walking pancake, and if it rains, a walking pancake with raccoon eyes.
- After moisturising, skip the foundation and opt for a compact.
- Also keep make-up light and non-layered. A compact, a gel blush and a little waterproof kohl is perfect. Add to it a light lipper and you have your very own monsoon minimalistic look!
- Tip: keep some make-up wipes handy in case it rains and your make-up does leak. Once the downpour is over, just reapply!
So ladies, do step out in this romantic weather to create your own classic love stories…
