I SPY: Blushing Divas
Last year may have been all about the bronzer, but now it’s all about the blush. Don’t believe us, check out these celebrities bring back pretty cheeks.
The reasons to use blush are same even today with most make-up artists considering it crucial to well-defined make-up. Always the underdog, blush, when used right can accentuate facial contours and speak for your whole look. From narrowing your face to widening it, adding youth or looking mature – a swirl of blush can really make a big difference to your overall look and style.
Ordinarily it’s quite difficult for redheads to pull off the rosy cheeks look, but Mad Men star Christina Hendricks seems to do it with ease. Her look at the Golden Globes was a perfect study of contrasts where shiny strawberry lips were paired with bare eyes and sheer stained cheeks on top of a matte alabaster skin. We believe she faked that natural flush using a blush stick with tiny particles of pearl for a barely-there shimmer. The result? An ultra-feminine and timelessly appealing look that had everyone talking.
At a recent fashion show, Glee star Lea Michele softens her prominent cheekbones with a wash of watermelon-shaded blush and a pop of colour on her pout. Bonus points to the small-screen siren for mixing shimmering and matte makeup textures to illuminate her big, brown eyes.
Nicole Richie is quite the poster child for the Boho Princess look. From flowy printed dresses to messy hair and head-turning accessories, Nicole seems to get this laid-back and romantic look spot on. With her make-up, we love how Richie uses safari blush tones to add dimension to her petite features. She blends her almost-brown blush away from the centre of her ears to highlight her cheekbones.
This singer-turned-actress uses peach blush that graciously compliments her complexion. She emphasises on her lower cheeks to draw attention to the centre of her face. This is a great blush application technique for women with long or square-shaped mugs to drawn attention to their lips and eyes instead of their strong jawline.
Doe-eyed Zooey Deschanel scores a girlie glow with her blush at a recent movie premiere. She keeps her colour pastel, pretty and well matted by brushing a mineral blush over the apples of the cheeks. Don’t have time to use blush, slightly pinch your cheeks before heading out to get this subtle look.
Jennifer Love Hewitt
The Ghost Whisperer star is anything but pale with her look. She manages to add a touch of sweetness to her sexy cleavage by dusting the tops of her cheeks with a peachy-pink powder blush. To replicate this look, smile while applying cheek colour to line up your blush brush with the natural contours of your face.
