Spring-Ready Hair Trends

Make a statement this spring season with trendy hairstyles. Check out our top 5…

Greet the onset of spring & summer with a quick refresher on the hottest hair trends as spotted on runways across the world! Apart from better dressing (think smart layers, uggs or brogues), the onset of the warmer season also heralds the opportunity to experiment with hair – go shorter, or sleeker, get a new colour, or try the big hair look, or just add new accessories. The key hair trend seen on runways for the spring/summer season is K.I.S.S. – Keep It Simple Silly! Designers go practical, easy, and mildly flirty with low-hung ponytails, natural waves, braids, twists, side partings, and eye-catching accessories, and more. We give you the round up on the hottest hair trends this upcoming season:

The Polished Pony:

A staple on last season’s runways, the sleek, low pony is a hot favourite on the ramp this time around too. Either go glam with a 1960’s pony, with slightly backcombed hair at the crown, and a low slung pony at the nape, or go super slinky with pulled back hair and the low pony. Spritz some serum to ease any frizz, take the hair and tie close to the nape, and leave out a section of hair to wrap around the base of the pony to finish off the look. This look also looks great when dealing with a bad hair day! Brighten the look with smokey eyes, or scarlet lips for a night out on the town. As seen at: Chanel; Anna Sui; Christian Dior

The Subtle Twist:

Hair needn’t be just left loose this season; play a little and twist a few sections of hair to add a subtle hint of luxury to your coiffure. One great (and easy) look to try is to take a section of hair from either side of the front of your parting (closer to the hairline), twist-twist-twist, and secure at the back with a cute clip or any other accessory. If your hair tends to get limp, be sure to rub some volumising mousse through your strands and then twist away. Super easy and super classy! Add to the look with the monochromatic make up look as seen on Valentino’s runway this season. As seen at: Gucci

The Natural Look:

Let your hair hang loose and free and wild this season. A hot favourite look seen across runways is free flowing, casual, no-nonsense hair – perfect for cooler days. Go dishevelled and textured and right-out-of-bed, or big and flow-y with more tousled waves. To get the perfect look, coat hair with a texture spray and twist into small sections. Gently dry with a diffuser to add movement to the hair, or just run your fingers through it. Ideal for mid length-to long hair! Complete the look with sun-kissed skin, bright, shiny eyes and rosy lips, as seen at Dolce & Gabbana make up look this season.

The Braided Beauty:

A big hit on the runways this season is the romantic-meets-school-girl braided look. Try variations of the French braid (by pinning it up and twisting the end back into a long bun, or leave a loose fish tail, or keep the rest of the hair loose and a braid running across the crown (like a hairband). A safe and neat look for day or night; dramatise the look with a scrubbed clean face, groomed eyebrows with bright, open eyes, and lightly glossed lips as seen at Christian Dior. As seen at: Mulberry; Hérve Léger; Jason Wu

The Side-Parting:

A key trend spotted at almost every runway, be it with the pony, loose hair, or chic chignons. Play up a drab hairstyle with a swift parting to the side. Nail two trends by combining a side parting with a low pony, a low chignon, or even with the natural, flowing look. You’ll need to slick on some shine serum to perfect this look, for sleek looks best with this parting. Play up the look with strong eyes, a nude face, and lightly dusty lips for the evening, as done at the Diane Von Furstenberg runway look. As seen at: Christian Dior; Diane Von Furstenberg; Victoria Beckham; almost every runway this season!
