Beauty Budget Slashed
Read on to find out how you can stop over spending your hard-earned money on beauty.
In modern economics, there is a term called the Lipstick Effect. Devised by beauty moghul Leonard Lauder of Estée Lauder Companies, it basically implies that when the economy is dwindling, women are willing to boost their mood by buying lipsticks than busting their budget on big purchases. So basically, we have world economics being understood through the context of a lipstick. Could there be a better testimonial for a woman’s love for cosmetics? Body butters, shampoos, blushes, mascaras, every woman loves her overflowing vanity box. But, do you realise the burden your income bears for your retail therapy at those beauty stores? If you have a serious beauty habit, you probably spend some big moolah to follow the season’s latest trends, or even to just take care of your skin, hair and nails. But fret not fashionistas, FAB BAG brings you some uber cool tips to slash your beauty budgets without compromising on your oomph factor.
Stick to the Classics
Just because the colour purple is trending this season, doesn’t mean you need to buy plum shaded cosmetics by the bucket. Always try creating a cosmetic collection for a classic, timeless look that will withstand changing trends. Of course, you can indulge once in a while by picking up a little something in vogue to give your look an exciting update. The key is not to go overboard with shades that barely last a fashion fad and collect dust in your beauty drawers.
If you can multi-task, why can’t your cosmetics? Scout the stores for products that you can mix and match in your beauty regime. Instead of piling your dressing table with moisturising lotions, sunscreens and foundations, look for a product that delivers on all three levels. If copper is the shade for you, pick up a bronzer that can double up as an eye shadow or even a blush. You’ll be surprised at how much money you can save with multi-purpose cosmetics. The de-cluttered make-up box is just added advantage.
No more fancy salons
Fancy haircuts from famous stylists burning a hole in your pocket? We all need regular haircuts, but it’s better to find an affordable stylist for fab hair all the time than to go to a fancy salon you can afford only 4 times a year. Also, learn how to do your own hair. You will not only save yourself some money, but also the nuisance of running to a salon every time you need to look good for a night out.
Eyes Wide Open
Keep your eyes wide open to compare products while out for a beauty purchase. While we know that all products out there are not equal, there are many similar brands to explore. Do a little bit of homework to get an idea of the ingredients you’re looking for and spend a little more time reading the labels. You can end up saving almost 40% just here.
Pimples getting you down? Rub toothpaste instead of splurging on expensive acne creams. Bags under your eyes? Go for soaked tea bags rather than pricey under-eye gels. Goods found in kitchen cupboards have often made for some great beauty balms that have stood the test of time. While cutting down your beauty costs, a great tip is to try out those remedies that your grandma so often preached.
Bulks and Samples
No! Asking for samples is not being cheap. Beauty salespeople are usually happy to supply you with a sample or two if they have them on hand. Sample-sized products are perfect for travel. They’re also great to have on hand if you run out of your regular products and can’t re-stock right away. Another thing you should always do is buy your most-used beauty products in bulk. There are some serious savings happening there.
Here’s a fun activity. If you have some unused cosmetics collecting dust, get some friends together for a beauty product swap! Exchange unexpired and unused items you probably won’t use for something in your friend’s vanity box that you will. This can be a fun party to host and might even help you find some new favorite products, as well as have a fun-filled and much needed girl’s night out!
