WEATHER WISE: Monsoon Skincare

Rainy days are great fun but not if your skin reacts with breakouts and impromptu acne.

Everyone loves a good rainy day. The rains view from your window definitely gets an upgrade. But with rains come humidity and humidity induced skin breakouts are common and unflattering. Fret not, as we give you some quick fixes to keep that humidity at bay.

D.I.Y. tips!

  1. Basic thumb rule for all weather, especially to combat the humid levels, is keep your skin and body well hydrated. Often we refute the need to moisturise and hydrate considering the humidity around. But winter or monsoon, hydrating your body and thus your skin is very important. Drink up and splash your face 3-4 times with plain, cold water to keep the skin fresh and the pores closed.
  2. Oily and combination skins are most affected by humidity. Keep a good face wash handy to keep those pores clean – while you shouldn’t use anything too creamy, don’t get too drying with the face wash either. Anything that makes your skin feel too clean and tight needs to be shown the door.
  3. Ditch your intense creams and switch to a moisturizing gel, especially if you have oily skin.
  4. A basic mud pack will protect your skin from large pores in this clammy weather. Pick up any tube with multani mitti or kaolin clay – just ensure you pick up one that suits your skin type. You could also make a paste of yoghurt, lemon juice and a small piece of papaya. Apply for 10 minutes and wash your face with cold water. Follow this regime once a week and see the difference for yourself.

Your new BFF:

Astringent aka toner aka softener aka clarifier! Call it by any name but what it basically does in blot out the excess sebum from your skin, cleans out those pores and makes them appear smaller and has a mild anti-septic effect on the skin. Keep one handy – you can also opt for toning wipes

An aspirin mask!

Remember the humble Dispirin? Well it forms a great “peel” mask due to salicyclic acid being a great AHA . If you have sensitive skin, please desist. To use: Put 3 aspirin in a clean bowl and add a few drops of rosewater to melt them. Once melted, add half a teaspoon honey and mix well. Apply this gently onto your face and wait for 10 minutes (may tingle a bit). Wash off all the product and then hydrate skin with a gel moisturizer. Voila! No more zits. You can repeat this once a fortnight.
