Foundation That’s Right
For those of you who like your face a little more primped up, there is always the question of which to use – liquid foundation or pressed (compact) powder. So here are a few pointers to help you decide.
If you’re blessed with a baby-smooth complexion and can get away with a face wash and BB cream, you probably don’t spend precious minutes smoothing on foundation or dusting powder on your face. Foundation or compact, which to choose and when – get all the lowdown here if you’re wondering which to spend a bomb on…
Foundation involves a lot of decisions. How much do you want to cover up? Do you want your skin tone to look a little lighter or do you prefer the bronzed look? Powder does a more basic job of covering up, some would say more superficial. If you’re looking for a perfect cover-up, liquid foundation would be your best bet. The reason: it’s easier to blend into your skin and you’ll probably be able to find one close to your skin tone. Powder, even if it is pressed forms a much thicker layer on your skin and matching it with your skin tone can be tough. What powder does do, however, is absorb sweat and shine, so you’re safe from untoward breakouts or a shiny forehead. If you want to use powder and want a smooth face without the hassle of a liquid concealer, try using a concealer. A product like Clinique Blended Face Powder and Brush Concealer gives you the best of both worlds. Ideally, you could use some liquid foundation as a base for your face, use concealer to smoothen out any blemishes or dark circles and then dust on powder to lock the foundation in. However, keep in mind that using both can be a burden on your skin, which needs to breathe. Powder, especially can start to cake on the skin.
Know your skin
This is the golden rule before applying any makeup. Since foundation/powder is your base, you need to have a good idea of what your skin needs. For instance, if your skin is oily, you’re probably better off with a matte foundation like Deborah Colour Copy Oily to Combination Skin Foundation, with a light dusting of powder. Revlon’s Photo Ready Compact is a good option, as is L’Oreal’s True Match Powder Compact. If your skin tends to be dry, liquid foundation would work better for you. Try Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation or Clinique Superbalanced Makeup Foundation. If you’re willing to up your price quotient a little, Christian Dior’s Diorskin Eclat Satin Foundation is a great buy.
She’s got the look
Since all the effort that goes into makeup has one aim, to make you look fabulous, the final effect of your foundation or powder is all-important. Liquid foundation, if used right, will give your skin a dewy look, which is more natural than powder. Powder does make the skin less oily, but bear in mind that it also dissolves if it’s a humid day and leaves your skin patchy. Since we’re fans of long-lasting commitments, liquid foundation has our vote when it comes to a base – compacts are best left for discreet touch-ups.
