Revealed: Hollywood Fitness Secrets

Harley Pasternak might be all muscles and gleaming, shaved head and look like the sort of trainer who will make you run 10 miles every morning, but he does believe in ice-cream.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And he’s the trainer behind such Hollywood bodies as Megan Fox, Rihanna and Halle Berry, to name a few. Contrary to popular belief, these ladies don’t really sit around and munch on carrot sticks all day, neither are they formed of magic particles that turn a mountain of French fries into a six-pack. Pasternak’s workouts and fitness tips are actually pretty simple and you can easily follow them without too much effort, but with discipline.

  • Smoothie operator

Forget about what you can’t eat, focus on simpler ways to get the energy and nutrients your body needs. Smoothies are the perfect healthy and convenient solution. Pasternak recommends soy milk, blueberries and almonds or almond extract. If plain soy milk isn’t really your thing, you can use a vanilla flavoured one, or then just have skim milk, we’re not all vegan yet! You can make your own smoothies, just be careful to avoid fattening fruit such as mangoes and bananas. Blending breaks down the healthy components of the fruit and other ingredients, increasing the nutrients’ bio-availability.

  • Move it!

Exercise isn’t about spending an hour doing aerobics or working out, and then spending the rest of your day glued to the TV or to your computer. Pasternak recommends all-day movement, doing a minimum of 10,000 steps daily. If you don’t have the time for that much, do however much you can, but keep moving. Walk around your office every hour or so, this also makes it easier on your back. If you’re at home, get yourself off the couch as much as possible.

  • Gym-ditching

You heard the man, you DO NOT need to spend thousands on a fancy gym membership or equipment to get fit. According to Pasternak, all you need is to know your own body weight, and decide how many kilos/inches you want to lose. There are plenty of effective workouts that require no more than a wall and a mat. So, choose what suits you best and get cracking. You no longer need to use expenses or how far the gym is, as an excuse not to go.

  • What’s cookin?

Pasternak is no fan of starving. He recommends eating healthy (check out his Five-Factor Diet) at a stretch for five weeks so it becomes a habit for life. The major plus point is that you’re allowed five cheat foods every week, be it ice-cream or pizza or chips. He also recommends eating several small meals (around 400 calories) at regular intervals so you don’t feel like binging at one go. Cooking your own meals with five or less ingredients also helps.

So, there you go. You don’t have to born looking like Rihanna (apparently, she puts a lot of work into keeping herself that hot and fit); you just need to stick to a diet, keep active and cheat every once in a while to make yourself a little extra happy. It sounds simple, and it is, according to Pasternak. And nobody’s arguing with Megan Fox’s trainer.
