How To: Make Your Hair Shine

Glistening hair that looks like a dream is a wish coveted by many of us gals and yet we are hardly in near reach. Try these celebrity stylist tips to achieve those glossy, shiny locks!

Apple cider rinses, vinegar washes and oiling apart – try these simple stylist tips to get shiny hair.

  • For hair that’s really shiny, after you’ve shampooed with warm water, flip your head over and blast your mane with cold water. Then towel dry, and apply a light serum while the hair is still wet. This starts the drying process and reduces the need for excessive blow-drying which reduces shine.
  • If you want really glossy hair, run a bath and apply a leave-in conditioner or hair pack. Wrap your head in cling film and climb into the bath (or stand under a hot shower). The steam will help to open the hair cuticles and allows the treatment to penetrate and really invigorate and condition hair. Relax back for 15 – 20 minutes and then rinse hair thoroughly.
  • Always use a conditioner on your hair because the acidity helps close the hair cuticles and make them smoother. When you’ve dried your hair, use a straightening balm but never one which contains alcohol because it tends to swell the hair cuticle –the smoother the cuticle, the shinier the hair will be, because it will reflect more light.
  • One of the biggest enemies of shine is frizz. The hair cuticle becomes distorted and unable to reflect the light. After shampooing and conditioning, try using a good anti-frizz serum for a really shiny, glossy finish. A drop or two of olive oil helps too.
