Beauty Ingredient: Plums

You would undoubtedly want to try some 40 species of plums being cultivated around the globe – but besides a great eat, they’re also an excellent beauty ingredient..

Bursting with antioxidants, rich in vitamin A & C, and a healthy juicy source of fibre, like sorbitol, isatin and riboflavin, (vitamin B2) and potassium; plums are available in various colours, textures and flavours from sweet to tart. Eating plums reduces the risk of cancer, specifically breast, gastrointestinal and respiratory tract cancers. Say bye-bye to lenses and spectacles with regular consumption of plums as they contain vitamin A and beta carotene which is good for your eyesight. Cosmetologists and dermatologists too swear by this natural product for its multi-useful natural content. Wish to save some of your cosmetic bills including the ones going on facials? Here are some just out of the kitchen plum recipes to make you look supple and rejuvenated with health and glow…

Beauty quick-fixes

Plums being rich in antioxidants fight free radicals, thereby working as an anti-aging skin care agent…

  • This is a great and natural way to not only rid your face of dead skin cells, but also lighten blemishes and blotches. Slice a plum in half and remove the pit from inside. Mix an egg white with some natural cane sugar in a bowl. Once you’ve mixed them well, lightly dip the fleshy uncovered side of the plum into the dish. Use plum as a loofah or face sponge, lightly dabbing your face with the mixture. Keep going in circular movements even after it’s worn off a bit, gently evening it out and using the natural juices of the plum to evenly distribute it over your skin. Wash off after 5-10 minutes.
  • For dry skin, combine a tablespoon of plum juice with an egg yolk, leave it on for 15 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. This will soften skin and prepare it better for any further hydration.
  • Boil six plums in water and then allow them to cool. Next, mash these plums and add a teaspoon of sweet almond oil to it. Spread this mixture on your face and wash it off after 10-15 minutes to reduce wrinkles and blemishes.
