Yes Or No: Microdermabrasion Kits
Does Microdermabrasion work? And should you (or not) buy the DIY kits…
Microdermabrasion—often snazzily shortened to “Microderm” or “Lunch Peel”—involves using a rough grain-like polish or crystal/diamond tip (and suction) to slough off dead skin thereby polishing and revealing glowing, softer skin. Mostly used for anti-aging treatments for wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots, it is now considered highly beneficial for a multitude of skin concerns ranging from acne, dullness, roughness, enlarged pores, blackheads, uneven texture, and sun damage.
It’s also been known to help absorb your face products better, especially moisturizer, because it effectively peels off the dead skin blocking your absorbent layers. All in all, a wonder product!
Can I do it at home?
Why, yes, of course! In fact, FAB BAG insists you try it at home for fresh, glowing skin anytime without shelling out much for a salon visit. That said, always a good idea to try this under professional supervision first to see how your skin might react to a first-time treatment.
Is it harmful?
No. So here’s a clinically proven fact for you to chew on—it’s painless, non invasive, easy, safe, and just uses a fine abrasive tip or crystals (and vacuum suction) applied to the skin. No burns from chemical peels gone wrong, no Botox needles, and no prolonged redness or the pain of laser resurfacing. Sources have likened the sensation to that of a feline licking your face. Ok, so that’s not the best analogy, but it does sound pleasing enough! Since, the process only works on the top layers of the skin called Stratum Corneum; it does practically no harm, not even superficially, thereby keeping the skin’s sensitive layers intact and untouched.
What skin types work best with Microderm?
All types, but more specifically if you have either a) oily skin, b) dry skin or c) a dull, uneven combination of both. Also, FAB BAG recommends not trying it before 25 years and/or if you have sensitive skin, since it can strip away tender, younger skin. However, if your toner isn’t showing desired results (even after you paid a bomb for it), and would like to feel never-before-baby-bottom-smooth skin, then pick up a DIY Microdermabrasion kit now. It’s also known to be useful for removing pregnancy stretch marks.
Can the DIY kits be purchased OTC?
DIY Microderm kits are available at most well-stocked chemists, departmental stores and brand-specific outlets.

Extra tip: For a quick home recipe for effective Microdermabrasion: mix 3 parts baking soda with 1 part water, rub it till it becomes like a paste, and then apply on your face in a circular motion. Rinse off to reveal fantastic skin in minutes! Do not repeat this more than once a month though lest you scrape off more than just the outer layers. This is great to treat open pores and blackheads.
