Strawberry Beauty

If strawberries and cream area hidden craving, deprive your tongue if you may, but do let your skin soak in the beauty benefits!

The Beatles sang about it, the posh and famous gorge on it at Wimbledon and it is said to have aphrodisiac qualities. Along with all of these grand claims, the ripe, richly-hued strawberry can do wonders for your skin. Packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants, strawberries are great for most skin types and are said to contain collagen and ellagic acid, that protects skin from harsh UV rays. Not only that, this luscious fruit is said to make a lovely pack for the hair as well and whiten teeth! Simply mash a strawberry into puree and then add some baking soda till you get a paste-like consistency. Apply on teeth, leave for 5 minutes and then use you brush to fully get the mixture off. Voila! A brighter smile… You can use this once a week.

Scrub up

One of the simplest ways to use a strawberry is just by itself. Slice the berry in half and rub all over cleansed skin for a smooth, glowing complexion. One of the strawberry’s main components is alpha-hydroxy acid, which removes dead cells without the harshness of a face scrub. You’ve got a face that’s clean and refreshed in 10 minutes!

Strawberry mask

For those days when your skin looks like it curled up and died, it’s strawberries to the rescue! Mix half a cup of strawberry puree with two tablespoon of sour cream to make a face mask. Apply evenly all over your face and throat, leave on for 15 minutes, and then wash off with warm water. If you don’t have sour cream, use yoghurt. Strawberries are rich in salicyclic acid which is found in most acne creams. So, you needn’t worry if your skin is oily, this mask will make it taut and rejuvenate your complexion. The cream seals in your skin’s essential oils so you don’t feel dry and stretched after using the mask.

Dry Relief: If your skin gets very dry in winter, you could try mixing strawberries with fresh cream and honey. This generally looks so good that you’d rather eat it than put it on your face. Cream and honey are powerful moisturisers while the berries will cleanse your skin. Keep the mask on for 10 minutes and wash off. You could use a light moisturiser afterwards, just to ensure the moisture is locked in.

Berry happy feet

Winter brings with it that horror-of-horrors – badly cracked heels and dry skin around your toes. If you haven’t had the time for a pedicure, you could try this DIY foot scrub. Mash 10 strawberries into a pulp, add three tablespoons of olive oil and a teaspoon of salt. Use this to scrub your feet as strawberries act as an excellent exfoliant and will get rid of dead cells and extreme dryness. Follow with a warm-water wash and lots of moisturiser.

Your hair needs moisture, especially during winter if you don’t want it looking dull and lifeless. Shampoos and conditioners, while required, can leech your hair of moisture, especially if you’re using them daily. To combat this, mix strawberries with the yolk of one egg and apply on your hair. Keep it on for around 20 minutes, then shampoo off. Your hair will feel fabulously soft and silky.

Dandruff Cure: In case you have dandruff, you could use 5-6 strawberries along with a teaspoon of tea tree oil (try the one from The Body Shop) and apply to your hair once or twice a week. Tea tree oil is anti-fungal while strawberries have high amounts of copper and manganese which fight dandruff and also prevent greying.
