Cure Them: Thursday Woes
Your face and feet are two areas that need the most TLC and often end up ignored in the hustle-bustle of busy life. Here are two tricks to tide you over an exceptionally crazy week – you can always make up with more TLC over the weekend.
Facing the heat?
Thanks to all the running around, your skin is probably taking on a darker hue by the middle of the week, because of exposure to the sun. While salons have various effective (and costly) remedies for tanning, there are some miraculous remedies within your reach at home as well. Cold milk works wonders: so just keep a cup full of chilled milk and dab some on to your neck, arms, shoulders and other exposed areas every time you open the fridge. For even better effects, grind some soaked almonds into the milk to make a de-tanning scrub. Cucumber juice, papaya chunks and mint extract also help!
Best foot forward
If you’ve been juggling office with house work and the school run, chances are your exertions have taken their toll on your feet, leaving them dirty and scaly, with painful, inflamed soles to match your careworn soul. There’s nothing better than a good foot soak to put the spring back in your step. Clip your nails without chipping off the corners, ease out any grime from corners, and file them into shape. Now add a cupful of footbath solution into a bucket of warm water. If you’ve run out, simply squeeze out some mild shampoo and add some baking soda. For special effects, add a few drops of an essential oil that calms you down, and a few smooth pebbles that your two tired soldiers can rest on. Now slip out of those painful heels and step into heaven. Soak for about 15 minutes. If you’ve managed not to nod off, it’s time to exfoliate: use a foot scrub and rub your soles vigorously. You could also use a pumice stone to get rid of all the dead skin. Use a cuticle pusher to push back your cuticles. Now use some foot cream and give your feet a good thorough massage to get the circulation going. This will nourish the thicker dermis of your soles and leave your feet looking soft, smooth, and squeaky clean. If you’re doing this in winter, add a thick coat of petroleum jelly, gently roll on some socks and snuggle under the covers: not only will your feet be toasty warm all night, they will be baby-soft when you wake up the next morning!
From the cheatsheet: If this home-made pedicure also seems a Herculean task, you could just soak, scrub, smother in some petroleum jelly and reach for the socks. Skip all the stages in between.
This done, party away the week and then Saturday, run to the salon for some much-needed and deserved TLC!
