Find The Right Mascara
“She should use more mascara. When one is young, one should use a lot of mascara. When one is old, they should use much more.” – My Week With Marilyn
Mascara is a MUST have in any and every woman’s beauty arsenal. So basic, most of us can’t step out of the house without it. (Guilty confession – I love mascara so much, I often end up sleeping with it on!) However, as basic and well loved as mascara is, are you using the right type for your lashes? Just as not every hair type needs volumising or smoothening shampoo, every lash type does not require the same type of mascara. Depending on how your lashes are, your mascara ought to be picked accordingly. A product might claim to be a do-all mascaras and promise thick, defined, curly, mile-long lashes—but don’t be taken in by that. A single tube can pack only so many effective ingredients, and formulas usually have to sacrifice one benefit for another. So, if you want a specific effect, look for a specialised type.
- Poker-straight lashes—A fairly common lash type across the world, which explains why women spend so much money, effort, and time on curling their lashes. If you’re sick of investing in eyelash curlers, just switch your mascara. Stick-straight lashes require curling mascara – this mascara not only comes with a curled wand tip, but also its resins and waxes lift and bend straight lashes, giving you that bright, doe-eyed look in seconds.
- Thin, sparse lashes—What woman doesn’t want thick, gorgeously full lashes, but while some of us maybe blessed with superstar-thick lashes, what do you do if you’ve got thin, sparse ones? Simple – you get yourself a full-volume, thickening mascara. Thickening, or volumising, mascaras usually come with a big, full brush and waxes, which stick to the lashes to add intense volume with each stroke. However, look out for clumping and flaking. Poor quality thickening mascaras most often have wax that sticks, thus, causing clumpy lashes. In fact, the thickening agents can also cause brittle lashes, so be sure to remove the mascara before sleeping, and moisturise your lashes with almond oil. Which is why, we recommend using a high quality product.
- Short lashes—Another common problem, that can easily be solved by a lengthening mascara. Do they work? Yes, they do – the lengthening formula’s nylon fibres act as extensions on short lashes. So if it’s Rapunzel lashes you crave, ditch the false eyelashes, and grab a lengthening mascara like: Givenchy Phenomen Eyes Effet Extension Lengthening Mascara (Rs 3330), which comes with a special spherical brush to elongate your lashes.
- Thick, curly lashes—So, you’ve got seemingly perfect lashes, but you can’t do without mascara, can you? Even thick, curly lashes could do with extra definition, and being ‘opened up.’ Pick a waterproof mascara to lock in hold, give definition.
