A few makeup products is all you need to create stunning looks perfect for this festive season. We list some of the essentials you must-have in your beauty bag.
Whoever said that beauty is only skin deep was telling a half-truth. While there is more to us than our outward appearance, having a polished look every time we step out only boosts our self confidence. That’s where basic make-up steps in. Cosmetics help enhance and illuminate our natural features. Now we understand if you’re a rookie with make-up, but know this, creating your make-up kit is actually quite simple and not so much quantity as quality!
One BB cream, one foundation and one compact/loose powder is what you need to start with. A BB cream has over foundation is that it’s a multi-tasking product that moisturises, soothes, sun-protects and functions as a light base amongst others. Its biggest perk is that it’s not as heavy as foundation and works for all skin types. Perfect for beginners looking for an everyday look. A foundation serves to even out your complexion and create a flawless face for those evenings. Finally a compact comes in handy for dainty and discreet touch-ups once you’re out.
Blushes are meant to mimic the flush of your face. Applied to the apples of your cheeks, blush helps to addradiance to a dull complexion and in some cases also contour the face. The consistency depends on you – crème blushes work well for dry skin while powder and gel blushes suit oily and combination skins. Keep two colours handy – a pink or peach for day time wear and a darker red or fuschia for evenings. You may also choose to buy a bronzer for a more sun-kissed look.
For beginners, eye shadows in neutral colours are the safest bet. Colours like white, pearl, peach, cream, sand, tan, beige, browns are fairly close to the natural skin colour and do not stand out like blues, greens, or purples. Another benefit of a neutral colours palette is that these can be worn on a daily basis and with the help of a few eyeliner pencils, you can create all the smokey you want. You don’t need a massive palette to start out with. A trio or quad of neutral colours will suffice.
Drawn very close to your lash line, eyeliner helps to define your eyes, give depth and even enlarge them. You can create fantasy looks or simple everyday looks just by changing the strokes. Every beauty box should have a basic black, dark brown a couple of jewel-tones for fun night outs. Pencils are the easiest to apply, followed by gel and then liquids.
One mascara is enough. The right type of mascara can do wonders to make the eyes stand out. There aretons to choose from. Some mascara formulas are loaded with proteins and vitamins to help grow lashes. Some specialise in lengthening the lashes, others in curling them, there are some that help define the lashes while a few add volume to the lashes, the list is endless. Additionally, those who do not have curly lashes should probably invest in an eyelash curler.
Keep 3-4 colours at hands – a nude, a pink, a red and perhaps a bronze or gold. Adding just a hint of colour to the lips can illuminate the face even more. A tinted lip balm is a good investment. It allows for the lips to be moisturized and at the same time adds a subtle flush of colour to brighten them up. Depending on the occasion, you can opt for lipsticks or lip glosses to add colour and give you a juicy pout.
Remember: Your beauty box is build-able and grows over time as you get more experienced with make-up application.
